On-site interpreting is often the best option when communication calls for human presence, immediate clarification, and the full context of an in-person interaction.

On-site interpreting is often the best option when communication calls for human presence, immediate clarification, and the full context of an in-person interaction.

Communication is more than spoken words. Tone, facial expressions, body language, timing, and cultural context all shape how a message lands. When an interpreter is physically present, they can support the natural flow of conversation, recognize signs of hesitation or misunderstanding, and help all parties feel more understood — especially in conversations that are sensitive, complex, emotional, or high-stakes.

E2S provides on-site interpreting across Oregon and beyond in over 60 languages. Our interpreters are thoroughly vetted, trained, and matched to your setting — whether you need someone for a one-time appointment or ongoing support.

When Is On-Site the Right Choice?

E2S offers three interpreting modalities. Here’s how to know which fits your situation best.

Choose On-Site When…

  • Physical presence matters for trust or comfort
  • The conversation is sensitive, high-stakes, or emotionally complex
  • Body language and non-verbal cues are critical
  • Paperwork, forms, or physical materials are involved
  • The setting is a courtroom, medical exam, or evaluation

Consider OPI When…

  • You need an interpreter quickly with little notice
  • The conversation is straightforward and time-sensitive
  • Location or travel is a barrier
  • A phone call is the primary communication channel

Consider VRI When…

  • Visual connection matters but travel isn’t feasible
  • You’re working in a telehealth or hybrid setting
  • ASL or a signed language is needed remotely
  • Your team is distributed across multiple locations

Frequently Asked Questions

How much notice do you need to book an on-site interpreter?

We recommend booking at least two weeks in advance — this gives us the best opportunity to match you with the right interpreter for your setting, language, and needs. For requests with less lead time, we can often still make it work with as little as 48 hours notice, though availability and match quality are best when scheduled further ahead.

What languages are available for on-site interpreting?

E2S provides on-site interpreting in over 60 languages represented in Oregon. Spanish is our highest-volume language, but we regularly support Arabic, Russian, Somali, Vietnamese, Mandarin, and many others. Need a language not listed? Contact us and we’ll do our best to help.

What areas do you serve?

We serve communities across Oregon — including the Portland metro, Willamette Valley, Eugene, Central Oregon, Eastern Oregon, Southern Oregon, the Oregon Coast, and the Columbia River Gorge. Whether you’re in a major city or a rural area, we’re committed to connecting you with the right interpreter. Reach out and we’ll confirm availability for your location.

Are your interpreters certified or qualified?

We work with both certified and qualified interpreters. Our interpreters are thoroughly vetted, trained, and matched to your setting — whether they hold a formal certification or have demonstrated the language proficiency and professional experience required for the work. All interpreters complete our performance-based onboarding process.

Can I request the same interpreter for recurring appointments?

Yes. Continuity of care matters, especially for ongoing medical or legal situations. Let us know when you schedule and we’ll do our best to assign the same interpreter across sessions.
